Safeguarding

The Naturist Outreach Group is a member of British Naturism (BN). In accordance with BN’s recommendations we have adopted their safeguarding policies for both children and adults.  Links to the BN safeguarding policies are provided in the Useful Contacts box below.

In addition to BN policies, the Naturist Outreach Group has its own procedures specific to the group, that are outlined here.

The Naturist Outreach Group organises events that reflect the interests of its members.  There are two different kinds of official events, (Official events are those that have been agreed by the Naturist Outreach Group management group and publicised on the Naturist Outreach website):

  • At events that take place at landed clubs, we adhere to the safeguarding policies of the host club.
  • However, Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Thus, it is the responsibility of our Group members to ensure that any concerns they have are addressed. A member can always refer concerns to the Group Safeguarding Officer.
  • At events held at locations away from landed clubs (e.g., beaches), if a Group member has concerns they should be referred to the Group Safeguarding Officer.
  • The Management Group and the Safeguarding Officer have the responsibility to ensure that the organisers/leaders of official events are aware of the safeguarding policy and who to contact should concerns need to be raised.
  • The Management Group and the Safeguarding Officer also need to confirm that the host landed/established BN member Naturist club has an up to date safeguarding policy and if not, our safeguarding procedures should be used.
  • The Management Group and the Safeguarding Officer will inform all members that we have a safeguarding policy for both Children and Adults.

THE 5Rs OF SAFEGUARDING

The 5 Rs of Safeguarding are a widely adopted and simple framework for guiding anyone who has a safeguarding concern, particularly around children or vulnerable adults.

  1. Recognise: Be alert to the signs and symptoms of abuse, exploitation or neglect.
  2. Respond: React calmly and appropriately to any disclosures. Offer reassurance without making any promises of confidentiality.
  3. Report: Inform the relevant safeguarding lead with your concerns. If you are at a club or an organised event, they will have their own officers. Otherwise contact the Outreach Safeguarding Officer.
  4. Record: Document all concerns, observations and disclosures accurately. Include dates, times and specific details. Avoid any personal opinions.
  5. Refer: The case may be referred to external specialists (such as Social services or the Police) if the situation requires it.
